CNN —Welcome to week two of the Trump 2016 election interference trial. And the case Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg brought is, at heart, a documents case – Trump has been charged with 34 counts of felony record falsification, actions allegedly taken to cover up hush money payoffs connected to the 2016 election. But as demonstrated by longtime Trump assistant Rhona Graff’s testimony Friday afternoon, the methodical nature of the testimony and evidence doesn’t mean it will be dull for the jury. The testimony of Gary Farro, Cohen’s onetime banker, is emblematic of what we are likely to hear from other witnesses this week. When defense counsel elicited from Graff on cross-examination that Trump was a good boss, she became a free character witness.

Still, the question remains: Can Trump consistently stay awake through the long slog of a criminal trial? Still, it was a striking image that simulcast three individuals in one: a criminal defendant; one of the most powerful people on the planet; and a napping old man. Not everyone is so lucky when those around them fall asleep in court. A defendant whose liberty is on the line would be well advised to find out a way to stay awake. (Some judges might frown upon a defendant chewing gum in court, but sleep specialists have identified plenty of other ways to stay awake, some of them courthouse-friendly.)

I tested the eight-minute phone call concept to reconnect with two of my best friends. So for the month of February, I scheduled weekly eight-minute calls with two of my close friends, Sarah and Larissa. These phone calls took the place of longer calls, but also replaced the need for text message chats. AdvertisementPerhaps the biggest perk of these short calls was getting to hear the voices of my best friends. I realized that these eight-minute phone calls aren't a solution for every friendship.

As always, Browne’s models did not strut a runway but instead were players in his fantasy, walking deliberately and serenely around a wintry wasteland filled with snow and bare trees. Of nearly 50 looks, everything was in black-and-white — typical of Browne's color discipline — with a little gold at the end. In the second, black birds emblazoned a white coat that itself covered a black jacket and skirt. And there was a rare hint of skin for the label — a sheer black blouse covered with roses and a sheer skirt. Indeed, Coon ended it with frightening screams of “Nevermore!” But for Browne and his audience it was Valentine's Day.

Mike Segar | ReutersMarkets need to begin thinking about the structural impact of Donald Trump's proposed 10% tariff increase, which "shakes up every asset class," according to Michael Every, global strategist at Rabobank. He suggested one of investors' top concerns would be the 10% tariff on all U.S. imports. Trump floated the 10% tariff during an interview last year with Fox Business' Larry Kudlow, his former White House economic advisor, saying "it's a massive amount of money." China responded with its own tariffs on U.S. goods, and Trump also imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from most countries, including many of Washington's biggest allies. He noted Trump's tendency to "change his mind" so frequently on geopolitical issues that "people won't know where his thinking is at."

Those losses have come despite the sophistication of Israeli tanks and Israel's experience using them. AdvertisementThe recent images of an advanced Israeli Merkava tank blazing on the Gaza border evokes memories of another October war 50 years ago. Nonetheless, about 20 Israeli tanks have been knocked out over the past two months by Hamas, an irregular force that lacks advanced weaponry. Barcelona is a decade into transforming many of its streets into green, car-light public spaces. Earlier this year, the city announced yet another major expansion of the project, with a goal of making a third of city streets green by 2030. And as Americans experience an epidemic of loneliness, a built environment that fosters social connection might be crucial for public health. Making a neighborhood more attractive with more walkable, green streets could mean triggering or speeding up gentrification. More walkable communities with high-quality public spaces are much more expensive to live in, indicating high demand.

You Deserve a Great Nap

You can’t beat coffee for a morning pick-me-up, but as the day wears on, energy levels can slump. Sleep scientists have a better idea: Take a nap. A nap is “like a performance-enhancing drug without the drug part,” said Jade Wu, a sleep psychologist and researcher at Duke University. But a good nap is as much art as science, and can take some practice to master. The best time to nap is about six to eight hours after you wake up in the morning, said Sara Mednick, a professor of cognitive science at the University of California, Irvine.

Napoli stumble to 1-1 draw as eliminated Union snap losing run
  + stars: | 2023-11-08 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
NAPLES, Italy, Nov 8 (Reuters) - Union Berlin's David Fofana scored a second-half equaliser against the run of play to snatch a 1-1 Champions League draw at Napoli on Wednesday and snap a 12-game losing run, but it was not enough to keep the German side's knockout hopes alive. The draw left Napoli in second place in Group C on seven points, two behind leaders Real Madrid who face Braga, on three points, later on Wednesday. "This feels really good," said Union captain Christopher Trimmel. They did break the deadlock before halftime when a deflected shot bounced off Politano's chest and into the goal. Napoli had 18 corners to the Germans' five but despite late pressure and a string of chances they failed to score again.

Worldline's (WLN.PA) stock slide, which saw around $4 billion wiped off its market value, is the latest wake-up call. COMMISSIONS CUTRevenue growth has suffered at payments firms as inflation has force European consumers to spend less, while investors fret about the euro zone slipping into recession. Some analysts say payments firms have also been caught napping, after a period of growth during COVID lockdowns. In a further sign of investor wariness, venture capital investment flows into European payment firms have also dried up. Now, it may leave private equity investors to pick up the pieces for payment service firms, analysts said.

Fentanyl was found near mats that children used for napping at a Bronx day care where one toddler died and three other children were hospitalized last week, the police said on Monday night. “It was laid underneath a mat where the children had been sleeping earlier,” Joseph Kenny, the Police Department’s chief of detectives, said at a news conference Monday evening. Chief Kenny said that investigators were working with federal authorities to discover whether the day care, Divino Niño on Morris Avenue, was opened as a front for a drug operation. Emergency medical workers were called on Friday afternoon to the day care center, where they administered the overdose-reversal medication Narcan and then rushed the children to hospitals. Medical tests showed fentanyl in the three children sickened but not killed.

"We thought he (Weah) was going to bring the change he promised, but nothing," said businesswoman Martha Gould. An error in the accounting of fuel supplies in state-run tanks left Liberia short on gasoline in 2020, causing panic at the pumps. Still, it remains to be seen if Boakai and his Unity Party can turn the tide. MUNICH, Germany, Aug 27 (Reuters) - Bundesliga record signing Harry Kane scored twice in his first league appearance in front of a home crowd on Sunday to steer champions Bayern Munich to a 3-1 victory over Augsburg and make it two wins out of two matches. Despite their second straight league win coach Thomas Tuchel was not happy with his team's overall performance, especially after a sluggish first half. Bayern had their opponents on the backfoot from the start but chances were few and far between. Augsburg did manage to cut the deficit in the 86th when they caught the Bayern defence napping and Dion Beljo rounded keeper Sven Ulreich. Bayern are on six points, as many as Union Berlin, Bayer Leverkusen, VfL Wolfsburg and Freiburg.
